Bar Birdstones Information

Bar Birdstones are some of the more fascinating artifacts created by prehistoric artisans.  Birdsones are stone objects that were worked into shapes of a bird or animal.  These objects were usually manufactured from banded, greenish-gray huronian slate.  However, the color and texture of the slate material used varied as a result of the effects of glacial drift in different geographical areas.

Though most styles of Birdstones were made of slate, many other materials were used as well.  Some of the more developed Birdstones were made of hard stones, such as porphyry, quartz, and granite.
