Ferrari

Ferrari is an Italian car manufacturer involved in the Formula One World Championship. The company was founded by Enzo Ferrari in 1929. The famous symbol of Ferrari is a black prancing horse on yellow background, usually with the letters S F for Scuderia Ferrari. The jumping black horse is known as “Rampante Cavallo.” The horse on the emblem honors an Italian flying ace named Francesco Baracca, who lost his life in World War I. The vibrant black silhouette of the Ferrari horse also represents the popular belief that a horse on the top of a car would always guide its driver to victory. Another assumption suggests Baracca copied the jumping horse design from a shot down German pilot who had the emblem of the city of Stuttgart on his plane.

Jumping black horse - symbol of Ferrari

This horse theme comes from the origins of the city’s name Stutengarten, an ancient form of the modern German word Gestut, which translates into English as stud farm and into Italian as scuderia. Ferrari has used the Cavallino Rampante on official company stationery since 1929, while the yellow background was added to honor Modena – as yellow is the city’s historic color.

Krak des Chevaliers

Krak des Chevaliers is a Crusader fortress in Syria and one of the most important preserved medieval military castles in the world. In Arabic, the fortress is called Qal’at al-Ḥiṣn (Arabic: قلعة الحصن‎), the word Krak coming from the Syriac karak, meaning fortress. It is located approximately 40 km west of the city of Homs, close to the border of Lebanon, and is administratively part of the Homs Governorate.

The castle is located east of Tripoli, Lebanon, in the Homs Gap, atop a 650-metre-high hill along the only route from Antioch to Beirut and the Mediterranean Sea. It is one of many fortresses that were part of a defensive network along the border of the old Crusader states. Christmas Around The World

The celebration of Christmas in France varies by region. Most provinces celebrate Christmas on the 25th of December, which is a bank holiday. However, in eastern and northern France, the Christmas season begins on 6 December, la fête de Saint Nicolas, and in some provinces la fête des Rois* is one the most important holidays of the Christmas season. In Lyon, 8 December is la Fête de lumières, when Lyonnais pay hommage to the virgin Mary by putting candles in their windows to light up the city.
French children put their shoes in front of the fireplace, in the hopes that Père Noël (aka Papa Noël) will fill them with gifts. Candy, fruit, nuts, and small toys will also be hung on the tree overnight. In some regions there’s also Père Fouettard who gives out spankings to bad children (sort of the equivalent of Santa Claus giving coal to the naughty).
In 1962, a law was passed decreeing that all letters written to Santa would responded to with a postcard. When a class writes a letter, each student gets a response.

Al Maha Desert Resort (UAE, Dubai)

“Arabs ascribe their best virtues to the desert: their deep religiosity, the communal spirit, the pride in their race, their hospitality, the dignity and respect they accord their fellow human beings…” so wrote the British historian, Wilfred Thesinger in one of his books about the Bedouins. Only those who experience the desert through all the senses can unterstand just how this apparently infinite expanse of finest sand, sun, heat and barreness has moulded these people. This archaic experience is no longer reserved for nature-lovers but now available for everyone, at the Al Maha Desert Resort in Dubai.
